The best six weeks of my life took place in Rabat, Morocco. I met my best friend, I learned how to cook Moroccan food, and I grew close to my host family. I participated in the National Security Language Initiative for Youth through the US Department of State, in which the State Department funds the immersion of high school students in a target language. I studied Arabic for six weeks, with classes five hours a day, and my language skills grew immensely. While we would practice in class, my favorite part of the day was when my friend Rimsha and I would go to the market and meet vendors and use our minimal language skills to introduce myself, get to know the other people, and bargain for products.
